Aloo Tikki Chaat Recipe – Street Food At Home

Aloo Tikki, a beloved street food in India, transcends its humble origins as a potato-based snack to become a culinary delight enjoyed by people around the world. This delectable dish, with its crispy exterior and soft, flavorful interior, offers a tantalizing experience for the taste buds.


For Aloo Tikki:

  • 4 large potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1/2 cup boiled peas
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • garam masala 1/2 teaspoon
  • cumin powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons cornflour or breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying

Instructions For Aloo Tikki:

  • Boil the potatoes until they are soft. Meanwhile prepare a bowl to mix all ingredients for chart.
  • Once potatoes boiled properly, peel and mash them in a large bowl.
  • Add boiled peas, chopped onion, green chilies, grated ginger, garam masala, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt to the mashed potatoes. Mix Well.
  • Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into round patties.
  • Coat each patty with cornflour or breadcrumbs. This helps in giving a crispy texture when frying.
  • Heat oil in a pan for shallow or deep frying.
  • Carefully place the coated patties in the hot oil and fry until they are golden brown on both sides.
  • Once fried, place the tikkis on a paper towel to drain any excess oil.

For Chaat Toppings:

  • 1 cup boiled and chopped chickpeas
  • 1 cup yogurt, whisked
  • Tamarind chutney (imli chutney)
  • Mint chutney
  • Chaat masala
  • Roasted cumin powder
  • Chopped onions
  • Chopped tomatoes
  • Sev (crispy chickpea flour noodles)
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped

Assemble Chaat:

  • Place a couple of hot aloo tikkis on a serving plate.
  • Top the tikkis with boiled chickpeas, chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, and any other desired toppings.
  • Drizzle tamarind chutney and mint chutney over the tikkis and toppings.
  • Spoon whisked yogurt over the tikkis and toppings.
  • Sprinkle chaat masala and roasted cumin powder over the chaat for added flavor.
  • Generously sprinkle sev on top for a crunchy texture.
  • Garnish the chaat with chopped coriander leaves.

Serve the Aloo Tikki Chaat immediately while the tikkis are still crispy.
